The Progestogen Only Pill contains one hormone Progestogen. It stops ovulation some of the time, thickens cervical mucus to prevent sperm meeting an egg and thins the lining of the womb to prevent an egg implanting. A pill is taken every day for 28 days until the pack is finished. The new pack is started immediately without any break, which means pills are taken during your period. You must remember to take the pill everyday, if you forget then you leave yourself unprotected against the risk of becoming pregnant.

This method is more than 99% effective but of course less than 100%.

Low risk but temporary minor side effects may include irregular periods, some bleeding in between periods and or missed periods. May be less effective in women who weigh over 70kg.
